The game features five reels and three rows. The game's 20 pay lines can be seen at a glance via the pay table. Only the highest win is paid per line, and all wins pay left to right except for the scatter, which pays in any direction.
The symbols are all mugshots, naturally. You'll see a rogue's gallery of shady animals giving the camera the side-eye. We actually paused the gameplay for a bit to check out these expertly designed characters. There's also a turkey judge, a crocodile gangster, a rhino with the world's smallest porkpie hat, and a gangster's moll in sunglasses and a sassy hat.
Detective Jack Murphy is a trusty hound dog and the wild card. He can substitute for anything you need to make a win except for the scatter. When you create a win with Detective Murphy, the win is multiplied by 2x.
The sheriff's badge is the scatter icon, and you'll need at least three in order to trigger up to 25 free spins – three scatters are 15 spins, four will get you 20, and five will get you 25 free spins.
The Mugshot Madness game has a feature during the free spin mode called the Line-Up Feature. With this feature, all the criminal symbols are “captured” if it is part of any winning combination. Each criminal can be captured only once – and once they are, their symbol turns into a black-and-white mugshot. It's a truly clever version of a bonus feature, and we really loved keeping track.
With this feature, the crocodile gangster awards a bonus prize of 10x when captured; the moll awards 5x, and his rhino henchman will get you a 3x win.
