With spring already underway, grand sporting events are making a comeback. Cheltenham Festival in particular is always an excellent way to kickstart the spring’s horse racing action. This year’s festival is planned to take place between the 14th and 17th of March — Tuesday to Friday. Throughout its long history (the festival originated in 1860) this top-flight horse racing event was cancelled only once, in 2001, due to the foot-and-mouth disease epidemic.
This year’s festival is already looking to become a staple in the horse racing calendar of the UK. Here’s an overview of what you can expect from each exciting day of this year’s fixtures.

Day 1, Tuesday, 14th of March
Cheltenham 2023 will begin with an exciting day for the fans of jump racing. The highlights will include the iconic Grade 1 races — Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle Race, Unibet Champion Hurdle Challenge, and Sporting Life Arkle Challenge Trophy Steeple Chase.
Day 2, Wednesday, 15th of March
The following day is sure to deliver much fun. The headline for the Festival Wednesday will be the Queen Mother Champion Steeple Chase. This centrepiece horse race has an astonishing £350,000 prize fund. The event will be truly electrifying with some of the most professional jump racers competing for the crown. You’ll also be able to enjoy the Coral Cup and the Brown Advisory Novices’ Steeple Chase.
Day 3, Thursday, 16th of March
The third day of Cheltenham 2023 will be especially merry, as it will be St Patrick’s Day, sure to be a lively affair with many revellers attending the event. It will feature the Stayers’ Hurdle and the Triumph Hurdle in addition to the Ryanair Steeple Chase, the feature race of the day, attracting the most powerful contenders globally.
Day 4, Friday, 17th of March
Cheltenham 2023 will conclude with a traditional Gold Cup Day. Culminating all events of the Festival, the competition for the Cheltenham Gold Cup will be especially fearsome. It’s safe to say that Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup Steeple Chase is the most prestigious race of the week and the pinnacle of the National Hunt calendar. The main prize is £625,000, so the visitors can rightfully expect the jockeys to go all out. But prominent races don’t end here, as the JCB Triumph Hurdle and the St. James’s Place Festival Challenge Cup will also take place on that day.
Free Betting Tips
While it’s hard to predict something so dynamic and active as horse races, past records as well as information on the current form of the horses give us a good idea of this year’s racing landscape.
As for the favourites of the Festival, Galopin Des Champs is currently high on the list of safe betting options. This 7-year-old has been closely watched for a while now — from failing to pass the very final fence in the Turners Novices’ Chase to a clean victory at the Irish Gold Cup. However, a strong challenge to this horse will be presented by the winner of Cheltenham 2022 — A Plus Tard. Still more challenge is presented by Noble Yeats and Bravemansgame.
The Cheltenham Festival 2023 promises one of the most exciting and competitive horse racing events this year, featuring well-trained horses and experienced jockeys. Whether you are an experienced punter or just a casual racing fan, this event provides you with a rare chance to witness some of the world’s top racing action up close. Join in on all the thrill by placing your bets now at Cheltenham Festival 2023!
