Bundesliga 2017-2018

The 2017/2018 season is the 55th in the history of the professional German football championship. The first teams to meet at the Allianz Arena in Munich on August 18, 2017, were FC Bayern Munich, the reigning champion, and Bayer 04 Leverkusen. The game ended with a convincing victory of the Bavarians with the score 3:1. The last match is scheduled for May 12, 2018. The winter break, reduced on the occasion of the World Cup, lasted from December 18 to January 11.

Following the previous season results, Ingolstadt and Darmstadt, who took the 17th and 18th places, therefore, were replaced by Stuttgart and Hannover 96 from the 2nd Bundesliga. Wolfsburg, occupying the 16th position, managed to defend the right to compete in the main tournament of the country thanks to the victories in the two relegation matches against Eintracht Braunschweig. Interim matches are also represented in the Bundesliga football betting.

In the 2016/2017 season, FC Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund and Hoffenheim took the first 4 positions and acquired the right to play in the Champions League. The debut Hoffenheim season in the international arena was rather unsuccessful and the club, standing a chance to participate in the Europa League, made it out of the tournament group round. Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig left the Champions League after the group stages and emerged among the participants of the Europa League. Live betting on the matches is available on the day of the event. Köln, Hertha und Freiburg left this tournament at the earlier stage. Bayern Munich successfully performs within the Champions League.

The beginning of the 2017/2018 season appeared to be unexpected for many clubs. Bayern showed an inconsistent play and after 6 legs took the third place, whereas the vice-champion RB Leipzig moved to the 6th place. Ending the previous season at the top of the standings, Werder Bremen and FC Köln appear at the bottom of the table. The 10th leg was a decisive one as Bayern reclaimed Borussia Dortmund’s first place. Since then the leader of the standings has not changed and there is no doubt that the Munich club is on its way to the 27th championship, that’s why the online betting is accepted on the vice-champion only. FC Köln invariably takes the last place, the team won only 4 matches — the first one was in the 17th leg in the match against VfL Wolfsburg. The second candidate to move to the 2nd Bundesliga is Hamburger SV. Werder Bremen’s achievements deserve special attention as the team was the second from the bottom before the 17th leg. Over the next 10 matches, the club from Bremen won 4 ties with another 4 resulted in a draw, which allowed them to leave the relegation zone and climb to the 13th line.

Apart from the first position, the upper part of the standings remains dynamical. FC Schalke 04, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig are fighting for places from 2 to 6. Matches with their participation are especially attractive for placing bets. The clubs holding positions from 1 to 4 will get a direct qualification to the Champions League from the next season. The clubs on the 5th and 6th places become the participants of the Europa League. The betting odds on the potential players of these tournaments change in real time mode.

According to the home matches statistics, the top performers are Bayern, Stuttgart, and RB Leipzig. As for the away matches, FC Bayern is one of the best clubs in this category along with Borussia Dortmund and Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

Robert Lewandowski, Bayern’s forward, heads the top scorers’ standings with a heavy lead. Another successful finisher is the former Borussia Dortmund’s player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who now plays for London’s Arsenal. Therefore, he was excluded from the sports betting on Bundesliga top scorer market. What is more, Nils Petersen (Freiburg), Michael Gregoritsch (Аugsburg), Аlfreð Finnbogason (Augsburg) and other players are participating in the race for the trophy.

Bundesliga Facts

The Bundesliga is a professional championship among the football clubs of German, which includes 18 best country’s teams. This tournament rightly occupies its place among the most popular world football divisions. As the German Football Association holds the leading position in the UEFA ranks, the Bundesliga gives an opportunity of obtaining a direct qualification to the Champions League and the Europa League. As for the 2017/2018 season at the international football arena, FC Bayern München is doing well in the Champions League, FC Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are continuing to play in the European League.

Prerequisites for establishing a unified football tournament date as far back as the 1930’s. As many as 55 regional competitions with an equal status existed on the territory of modern Germany in 1932. A structure known as the 16 Gauliga, the first ordered system in the German football, functioned from 1933 till 1945. The winners fought for the right to be named the country’s best football club. At the same time the first bets on football were accepted. Several bigger football associations appeared later on: the Oberliga Süd, the Oberliga Nord, the Oberliga Ost, the Oberliga West and the Stadtliga Berlin. Only 46 clubs out of 74 applied for being submitted to the professional Bundesliga in 1963, 16 of them emerged as the first participants. From 1965/1966, the number of clubs in the German Championship increased to 18.  However, the 1991/1992 season, the first in the history of the united country, was an exception. Some 20 countries participated in it.

To define the current positions of the teams, a modern three-point system, introduced in 1995, is used. Three points are awarded for a win, one for a draw, and zero points for a loss. In case of the equal number of points, the difference between the goals scored and conceded is the first what is taken into account; the number of goals scored is considered next. Aiming to avoid any controversies and guarantee fair refereeing the VAR system was introduced in 2017. Regarding this new adoption, the bookmakers started to accept sports bets on whether the main referee will take advantage of a video replay or not.

The first three positions in the standings guarantee the partaking in the UCL, the fourth – in the play-off round. The fifth and sixth places ensure joining the group stage and the third qualifying round of the Europa League respectively. Online bets on teams that apply for qualification can be accepted during all rounds. The clubs that end the season on the 17th and 18th places are ranked even lower and replaced by the champion and vice-champion of the 2nd Bundesliga. The team, ranked 16th, holds two transitional matches for the third place in the second division. The winner benefits from the right to compete in the Bundesliga.
The perpetual trophy is awarded at the end of the season. The names of the winners have been engraved on the so-called silver “salad bowl”, made in 1949 in Cologne. VfB Leipzig was the first to get the trophy in 1903.

Over half a century of its existence, the German professional football boasts a variety of records. Bayern is the absolute champion, having won the trophy 26 times. The team is currently on their 5-season winning streak. Bayern Munich is the clear 2017/2018 favorite with the tournament outcome odds speaking in their favor. The second place is shared by Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach, the five-time trophy winners. Werder Bremen was engraved on the trophy four times, Hamburg and Stuttgart have been the German winners thrice.

Gerd Muller, the former Bayern player, who scored 365 goals heads the table of the best scorers. He is followed by Klaus Fischer (Schalke 04, 268 goals), Jupp Heynckes (Borussia Mönchengladbach, 220 goals), Manfred Burgsmüller (Borussia Dortmund, 213 goals), Claudio Pizarro (Werder Bremen, 191 goals).

The season traditionally comprises two rounds of 17 legs. Each leg is a popular target for live betting. Two halves of the tournament are separated by a winter time-off, and there are also some pauses for the national teams’ matches. The winter break may be reduced during the years when the World Championship or the European Championship is held.
