It's that time again for us to do our Slot of the Week. This week we decided to look at Butterfly Staxx 2. We picked it because the elements of the game seemed unique and we wanted to get into what really happens when you play it. As we do every week, we played it for two hours betting one credit per spin. Now we'll tell you what it's like and you can decide if it's the right game for you or not.
Butterfly Staxx 2 is laid out in a standard five-by-three configuration. There are playing card symbols – jack through ace. And then there are flower icons. The goal is to score three icons in a row, starting from left to right.
But then there are the butterflies. Bright yellow, they randomly land on the board. When the butterfly takes over an entire reel, it moves to the left-hand side of the screen. Then another five-by-three grid appears. As long as you keep getting a butterfly on each spin, all the butterflies will stay on the reels.
New butterflies will move to the left-hand side of the screen. Get two reels in either grid covered in butterflies – and a third five-by-three grid will appear. This continues until you get a spin without a new butterfly. Because the butterflies stay in place and you only need three in a row to get a win, you will earn progressively bigger wins as your spins continue.
Then there is the scatter icon. Get at least three of these symbols and you can choose between a game where you hunt butterflies or another game with all three grids open. We didn't like the butterfly hunting one. The one with three grids, on the other hand, is great!
All three grids will spin. What will pop up are live chrysalis and dead chrysalis. All of the live chrysalis will turn into butterflies and move to the left-hand side of the screen. There they will stay until your round of free spins is over. Like with the butterflies in the normal part of the game, this means that with each spin, you are winning more.
All of this makes for a truly exciting gaming experience. In fact, once we had won our first butterfly event, we never went down below the amount of money we started with. No matter what, we were always up over our original funds.
Because of that outstanding feature, we call this a very low variance game. The wins were not tremendous, but they were consistent. We could easily see playing this game for hours and only losing a little bit – or, more likely than not, coming away with more money than we started out with.
That's a really fun and potentially profitable outcome for people who love low variance games. And the deal with the butterflies really is fun to watch happen! We particularly loved it when we had three grids to play with.
Of course, some people don't like low variance games. They would rather lose a bit to get the chance at a big win. If that's your deal, then Butterfly Staxx 2 will not be the right game for you.
However, if you are a low variance fan, we can't imagine a game being more fun than Butterfly Staxx 2. We give it five out of five stars. One of our favorite games to play of all time.
